Sherman G. Hurst has been appointed pres. and gen. mgr. of Kimberly-Clark Nova Scotia. He has been with Kimberly-Clark for more than 30 years, holding sr. management positions at several manufacturing facilities in Canada, the U.S., and Britain.

David E. McIntyre and Richard N. Burton have been appointed as sr. v.p.-operations; they succeed Frederick C. Haas, 62, who will retire after 35 years of distinguished service.

Frank C. (Kim) Breese has been appointed exec. v.p. of U.S. Operations. He served as pres. and CEO of Newsprint South Inc. from 1992 to 1995 after having occupied executive positions with Dow Jones & Co. in New York for over 20 years.

Mario Concha has joined the company as v.p.-chemicals and resins. He will be responsible for all of Georgia-Pacific's chemical operations, which include GPRI and the company's chemical businesses in Bellingham, Wash.

Markku Saarela has been appointed v.p.-information technologies of the company's paper divisions. He formerly served as dir.-industrial applications at IBM.
RAYONIER INC.
Timothy H. Brannon has been named v.p.-Asia Pacific and managing dir. of Rayonier New Zealand. He is replacing Andrew G. Wiltshire, who has accepted the position of dir.-forest fund marketing. Wiltshire will be working with Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co., Boston, as part of the new Rayonier-GMO alliance which seeks worldwide timber investment and management opportunities.

The company has announced the appointment of Byron Jenkins as v.p.-mill operations in their Roanoke Rapids, N.C., paper board manufacturing facility.
REPUBLIC GROUP INC.
James Nelson has joined the company as dir. of engineering, and will be responsible for design, engineering and construction activities of Republic's greenfield mill project in Lawton, Okla., as well as engineering and installation of capital improvements in other mills. W. Roger Smith has joined Republic Paperboard as mill mgr. for their new 100% recycled paperboard mill, to be built in Lawton, Okla.

David A. Brookfield has been elected pres. and CEO. A 28 year employee of the company, he has held various positions including, most recently, v.p.-engineering. Brookfield replaces Louis A. DiCorpo, who will remain with the company as vice chairman of the board of directors while assisting the executive management group.

The company has appointed John Wildes sr. papermaking consultant for the northeast region, and Cathy Hood has been appointed design engr. for headboxes, flotation and cleaning systems.

Chris C Richardson has been promoted to pres. and CEO of Schneider North America. He succeeds Charles W. Denny as CEO; Denny will continue as chairman of Schneider North America until the end of 2000.

Håkan Norberg, formerly v.p. and gen. mgr. of Sunds Defibrator's Refiner Segments Division, has been appointed pres. of the Mechanical Pulping Systems Business Area; he succeeds Lennart Ohlsson, who has been appointed pres. of the Panelboard Systems Business Area. Aron Mikaelsson, who previously held this position, will retire from Sunds Defibrator. Mika Tolvanen succeeds Norberg as v.p. and gen. mgr. of the Refiner Segments Unit.
Michael Cox has been appointed managing dir. of Sunds Defibrator Ltd., Borough Green, U.K.; he succeeds Kjell Yngvesson, who will retire later this year. In the Recycled Fiber Unit, Håkan Dahlin has been appointed v.p. and gen. mgr., and Jari Koikkalainen has been named tech. dir. RETIREMENTS
GREEN BAY PACKAGING INC.
John D.L. Droege, v.p.-human resources, has retired after 31 years of service. Droege joined the company in 1967 as asst. to the v.p. of manufacturing at the Green Bay Shipping Container Div.; he later became prod. mgr. and was transferred to the Corporate office as corporate dir. of industrial relations in 1977. Droege has been involved with numerous groups and associations within the packaging industry and has served on several local boards.

CENTRAL NATIONAL-GOTTESMAN INC.
James G. Wallach, 55, chairman and CEO of Central National-Gottesman Inc., died on June 19 at his home in Scarsdale, N.Y. After receiving an MBA degree from UC-Berkeley in 1966, he joined Central National and, in 1984, led the company into the paper merchant business with several successful business acquisitions.
