Added to the existing six-body evaporator, the new evaporator will increase water evaporation from 170 ton/hr to 270 ton/hr and increase black liquor concentration from 49% to 72% total solids.
Weyerhaeuser has received rigid tubular heaters from Process Heating Co. for its Springfield, Ore., mill. These heaters will be used as part of the paper machine lube oil system and in hydraulic reservoirs to maintain oil temperature during downtime for maintenance or to increase to workable temperatures before startup.
Caraustar has ordered a gas infrared drying system from Marsden Inc. for its paperboard mill located in Sprague, Conn. This system will be installed following a coater in an effort to increase machine speed by 20%.

J&Y International Enterprises (J&Y) has announced its acquisition of Aqua-Chem Inc.'s pulp and paper evaporator business. The "Aqua-Chem" name and logo will be used with J&Y's in its marketing and sales efforts. Andritz AG has acquired Andritz-Ahlstrom. This acquisition is designed to strengthen Andritz's position in stock preparation, approach flow, and recycled fiber technologies. Upon the expiration of its cooperation agreement with Voith Paper in mid-2002, Andritz will combine these activities into a single division capable of offering complete systems, specialized equipment, and service. The company will offer overall systems for the stock preparation of chemical, mechanical, and recycled fibers.
