IFPTA to host second Asian Regional Seminar in China

NEW YORK, March 5, 2008 - The International Forest Products Transport Association (IFPTA) today announced plans to host their Second Asian Regional Seminar in China. The seminar will be held June 4-6, 2008, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Shanghai, China. It is supported by RISI and will be held in conjunction with the RISI Asian Pulp & Paper Outlook Conference, scheduled June 2-4, 2008.

Speakers from industry leading organizations will present an overview of the current issues facing forest products logistics with respect to the Asian market. Topics will include: China’s transportation infrastructure, port capacities, inland routes and connectivity, and a two-year economic outlook for the Asian market. The seminar will also include a tour and presentation of the Westerlund Terminal and Warehouse at Changshu, an International Class 1 Port that handles more than 1.6 million tonnes per year of forest products.

"Our first seminar in China was held in 2005 and attracted more than 100 delegates and speakers, with almost two-thirds from mainland China," said Paul Doiron, President of the IFPTA. "As we continue to follow the growing demands and opportunities throughout Asia, we felt it was the perfect time to develop a second Asian regional seminar. The program will be tailored for anyone who is currently active in the Asian market or who wants to learn more about its potential," he continued.

A larger audience is expected for this seminar, due in part to the IFPTA’s growing influence in the region and the included tour of the Westerlund Terminal in Changshu on the last day of the seminar. Full program details can be found on the IFPTA web site: www.ifpta.org.
