Stimson announces layoffs at Gaston Oregon mill



PORTLAND, OR ,  (RISI) - Portland Oregon based Stimson Lumber announced it will reduce one shift at two of its Gaston Oregon sawmills. The shift reduction will affect about 70 mill workers. The layoffs will begin January 11 and will continue until market conditions improve. A hardboard plant at the site will continue to operate. About 220 people will still work at the site. Stimpson employs about 1200 people at mills in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
